Uganda has a lot of tourist potential and thus lots of wildlife can be sighted through game safaris however a special arrangement can be tailor-made into your package to include a close encounter with nature through guided nature walks which takes you to several hours walking through the savanna/ altitudinal areas on foot as you basically under-take your adventure with Munda Africa Adventure.
Several guided nature walks, ranging from 30 minutes to 8 hours in duration, lead from Buhoma, offering the opportunity to enjoy the tranquility and broader biodiversity of the forest, and to see a variety of monkeys and birds. For monkeys and general scenery, the best of the guided walks is probably the 3-hour water trail, which leads for 2km along the disused logging road to Nkuringo before ascending through, a beautiful area of the forest to a 33m-high waterfall on the Muyaga River. The Mazubijiro Loop Trail and Rushaga Hill Trail, each of which takes about 3 hours, offers good views across to the Virunga Mountains. The 8-hours Ivo River Walk, which leads to the Ivo River on the southern boundary of the park, offers a good opportunity of seeing monkeys, duikers and other birds.
Nature walks into the national park can be arranged at the usual UWA rates, but the steep nature of the descent (ascent) makes it a less-appealing prospect than at the other trailheads. That said, Nkuringo is a superbly scenic area with great potential for hiking outside the forest, though the possibilities for haphazard exploration are pretty limited. The steep nature of Nteko Ridge means that the main alternatives for a pleasant stroll are either west along the ridge-top road towards DRC or east towards Rubuguri. Bear in mind that the Ntungamo lies about 8km from the Congolese border and it is a sensitive area. Tourism development has been a subject manner for evaluation to ensure visitor safety and it’s not unlikely that you’d wander off into the DRC, or indeed be allowed to.
